SANGITA JINDAL
Mrs. Sangita Jindal , Eisenhower Fellow 2004 is the founder chairperson of the Jindal South West Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the O.P. Jindal group. The Foundation’s work ranges from healthcare and education programmes to activities in arts, culture and heritage.
A patron of the arts, Mrs.Sangita Jindal had launched a number of initiatives to promote culture and raise heritage – related issues in Mumbai. She established the Jindal Arts Centre (JAC) in 1992 on invitation from the NCPA to start a centre for inter disciplinary arts activity. Alongside, Art India , The Art News Magazine of India now a reputed publication on modern art in the country, was launched in April 1994.
She was the chairperson for The Kala Ghoda Art Festival from 2000 to 2003. For the year 2005, she headed the Art and Heritage component of the Mumbai Festival.
She is the founding trustee of The Friends for JJ School of Art Trust which is involved in the restoration of the institution. She is also the Chairperson of the Hampi Foundation that propagates a widespread outlook to heritage management.
She had been recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the World Monuments Fund based at New York. The Fund preserves major monuments and safeguards endangered sites across the world.
Mrs. Jindal supports issues related to the beautification of our surroundings. She spearheaded the beautification of Walkeshwar Road and is a staunch advocate of the campaign against illegal hoardings in Mumbai.
She has judged the Marico Ricci-Metro Society Young Achievers’ Award 2004 in the Fine Art category.
She is the member of Citizens’ Action Group, constituted under Government of Maharashtra, initiated to transform Mumbai into a world-class city.
The “I love Mumbai” committee conferred upon her the Best Citizens Award for the year 2002.
